Hi! I'm Kathy, and this is my dog Mac. The idea for Puppy Loveable Nurseries came about after I decided to try my hand at reborning (stripping the factory paint off of play dolls and repainting them to make them look more life-like, or creating fresh from a doll kit). My first try was a disaster! I wasn't willing to wait for the Genesis heatset paint to come in and experimented with cheap acrylics and oils from the dollar store, lol. The poor little doll, a second hand citi-toy doll, ended up with bright blue lightening bolt veins, bright pink cheeks and lips, and poodle hair. Yes, you heard right; poodle hair.
Reborn dolls usually have a lovely head of hand rooted mohair. I'd ordered mohair on ebay, but it hadn't come in yet, and I was anxious to try my hand at rooting. Well, since mohair is goat hair, I figured I could use poodle hair. And, as it turns out, poodle hair creates lovely, soft curls! So that turned out. What I didn't expect was my dog Mac's reaction. He fell in love with that doll...while it was still just a head! I guess, since the doll had his hair, he figured it was a weird sort of puppy! Mac kept stealing that doll head whenever my back was turned!
I had the ladies in my online reborning group cracking up laughing with my stories. Two of the ladies had just started a new doll magazine, called "Lifelike Dolls". It premiered in April, and they asked if I would like to write a funny story for their next issue. So I did, and if you want to read about my Misadvenures in Reborning, you can click on the PDF link at the bottom of this page. I kept practicing and Mac loved my second doll too, a Berenguer play doll; a scrapbook baby that I purchased for $10.00 at the Walmart. I named her Pebbles because she really looked like Pebbles Flintstone with her hair in a topknot ponytail. After I tried another style, she looked better; really cute, and I renamed her Allison...Allie for short.
Just as I was completing my third doll, a Berengeur Sandie kit, I adopted a toy poodle. Now, I already had Mac, a 3 year old standard poodle, and Annie, a 17 year old miniature poodle. Teeny tiny 8 year Benji joined our family and fit right in. HE fell in love with the Sandie kit, who I renamed Shannon Rose. I couldn't believe it! Every time I turned around, he was curled up with that doll! My puppies love the dolls, and that's how "Puppy Loveable Nurseries" was born.
My poodles are all clean, healthy, non-shedding, non-allergenic animals. They are only allowed near the dolls for photo shoots (Except for Frankie; he belongs to Mac, lol). My home is smoke free...with a vengeance! I don't allow smoke in the house at all (I hate it; bleah, lol).
In the future, I plan on rooting more babydolls with Mac's lush black hair. If you're intersted in adopting one of Big Mac's Smallfries, check back from time to time.
Take care, and have a great day!
Kathy
